A Legacy of Craftsmanship

Mergu was founded in 1997 by Mr. and Mrs. Yılmaz, both textile engineers who turned their expertise into a family-driven business. What started as a men’s shirt company soon expanded to include women’s and children’s garments, supplying top fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana and Prada. Today, their daughter Gülce Yılmaz leads the company, ensuring Mergu continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.

Sustainability in Action

At Mergu, sustainability isn’t just an industry trend—it’s a necessity. Billur, who oversees fabric sourcing, integrates eco-friendly practices into both work and personal life, using second-hand clothing apps and advocating for garment longevity. She believes in innovative textiles, organic fabrics, and recycling initiatives to reduce fashion’s impact on global warming. With concerns over future food scarcity, she supports the idea that land should be prioritized for agriculture rather than textile crops.

A Partnership Built on Shared Values

Mergu and Kings of Indigo work together to push the boundaries of sustainable fashion. They specialize in eco-conscious washing techniques and source recycled fabrics to reduce their footprint. Flexibility is key—when sustainability challenges arise, they collaborate to find solutions rather than compromise on values. Mergu’s deep knowledge of industry regulations and technical expertise makes them an ideal partner in creating high-quality, responsibly made garments.

A Day at Mergu

No two days at Mergu are the same. While each morning starts with a plan, urgent tasks and last-minute challenges often reshape the day. Fridays are the most intense—shipment days mean a fast-paced race to meet deadlines. Despite the high-energy environment, the team thrives on problem-solving, with a technical team boasting 25–30 years of experience ready to anticipate and solve production challenges.

Experimentation is key, ensuring continuous improvement in fabric performance, washing techniques, and sustainability efforts.

Collaboration & Adaptability

At Mergu, success is built on partnerships and flexibility. Their team understands the importance of adapting to new techniques, sustainability regulations, and evolving industry standards. Visiting MERGU

Team of pioneers

Founded in 1997, Mergü Textile started as a men’s shirt company before expanding into women’s and children’s clothing. The company remains family-owned, now led by Gülce Yılmaz, daughter of founders Işın and Muammer Yılmaz, both textile engineers.

With a highly experienced technical team, Mergü has built expertise in shirts and cellulosic fibers like viscose. Sustainability is a key focus, from fabric sourcing to responsible washing techniques. Billur, who joined in 2019, started by translating customer emails and has since taken over fabric sourcing, continuing Mergü’s commitment to sustainable textiles.

This shared dedication to sustainability makes Kings of Indigo x Mergu a strong partnership, ensuring innovation while prioritizing eco-friendly production.
