The problem
Most stretch denim relies on elastane, a fossil-based synthetic fibre. Even a small percentage makes the material composition more complex and can make fibre recovery harder at the end of use.
A little elastane goes a long way for comfort. But it complicates everything that happens at the end of a garment's life, which is exactly where we're trying to do better.
Our answer
Together with our Turkish mill partner Bossa, we developed cotton denim in which stretch is engineered through the weft yarn. Two yarns are twisted together to create mechanical crimp, allowing the fabric to extend under tension and move back towards its original shape when released.
The result is comfort built into the physical structure of the fabric, while keeping the garment closer to a single material, and easier to recycle.
How it works
Spun with high twist
Cotton fibres are spun into a tightly twisted yarn, storing energy in the structure itself.
Extends under tension
When you move, the yarn temporarily untwists and the fabric stretches with you.
Returns to shape
Released, the yarn springs back to its original state, behaving like elastane, without the elastane.
Stabilised by construction
Yarn count, twist level, weave structure and finishing are calibrated to hold shape wash after wash.
Why it matters
A 100% cotton construction removes onesynthetic input and keeps the fabric mono-material. This makes the materialcomposition less complex than cotton denim blended with elastane and cansimplify recovery at the end of use.
Natural Stretch is not a perfect solution.
It is one practical step towards denim designed for comfort, repeated wear and a more workable end of life.
