Inside KOI’s Natural Stretch Denim: Soft Moves, Strong Values
When it comes to denim, stretch is often a must.
Our customers love jeans that move with them, whether for long bike rides, busy days, or simply lounging in comfort. Stretch denim offers flexibility, shape retention, and a flattering fit, qualities that make jeans feel like they were made just for you.
But, is there a hidden cost behind that comfort?
Traditional stretch denim uses synthetic fibres like elastane or PET to create that flexibility. These fibres are not biodegradable and shed microplastics with every wash, contributing to pollution in our water systems and atmosphere. What’s more, jeans made with high elastane content are difficult to recycle mechanically, making them a poor choice for circular fashion.
How is Kings of Indigo solving this problem?
At Kings of Indigo, we believe in better. That’s why we’ve worked to introduce Magical Comfort Stretch, a patent-pending denim technology also known as TORQUE. This is a mono-material fabric with zero elastane, PET, or synthetic fibres, yet it offers incredible flexibility, comfort, and shape recovery. Inspired by the concept of torque, how fabric responds to movement, his innovation delivers all the stretch you love, without any artificial materials.
You can now find this groundbreaking fabric in several of our most versatile styles, including the Kukiko, Addo, and Inoe jeans. Designed for movement, made for the planet. Because TORQUE contains no synthetic fibres, it’s also highly suitable for mechanical recycling. Unlike conventional stretch denim, which must be limited to 2% elastane to be recyclable, our Cotton Flex fabrics maintain durability and comfort while being fully recyclable.
